With the development of computer animation technology, the simulation of irregular objects base on particle system has been the focus of researchers. Compared with the maturing physical method, particle system has the characteristics of simple algorithm and marked real-time effect. And its advantage of applying to simulated irregular object is distinct. Since explosion is an extremely irregular effect, its simulation has been a difficult and interesting research topic.This thesis analyzed two special effects on meteorite explosion and fireworks explosion, according to the characteristics of their movements. Combined with the physical mechanism of explosive results, the thesis selects the particle system as the mathematic model with the use of texture mapping and color fusion technology in OpenGL, Finally, the experiment on the simulation of meteorite explosion and the fireworks explosion has been completed.Meteorite explosion simulation has been widely used in computer game, movie and visual simulation system. Moreover, particle system is an effective method in meteorite explosion simulation. At present, there is no meteorite explosion simulation method based on particle system. In this thesis, a simple method of meteorite explosion simulation based on particle system has been adopted. The basic idea of the method is to apply the accelerated motion to the simulation of the movement trajectory of the particles. Also it uses the texture mapping and color blending technology to draw the particles. At last, with the use of tools such as VC++ and OpenGL, it simulates the meteorite explosion effect. The experiment shows that the method in this paper is highly efficient and real-time which achieves a more realistic simulation.Fireworks effect is a common effect in our daily life. It is also one of the hot research topics in scientific research. Base on the motion characteristic of firework particles after the explosion of fireworks, we consider the external influence after the explosion of fireworks, simulate the motion of firework particles according to Newton's second law, draw the firework particles combined with the color fusion technology in OpenGL, and finally simulate the effect of fireworks explosion with code. The experiment shows that the method in this paper displays a higher sense of reality and real-timeness.The above-mentioned is what this thesis has dealt with. We combine building a physical model of explosion effects with the particle system theory, and produce some simulation results of meteorite explosions and fireworks based on the use of the color fusion technology in OpenGL. However, due to time and research limitation, there are some flaws in particular algorithms details which require further study and improvements. As particle system theory has wide application prospects, only to study continuously can it play a greater role in our lives.
