This thesis is a based application research supported by"the research of automatic monitoring system for the Yellow River ice information"project from Yellow River Institute of Hydraulic Research of Yellow River Conservancy Commission.This paper has designed a embedded ice monitoring system based on the research harvests that Institute of Measuring&Controlling, TaiYuan University of technology has acquired in ice freezing&melting and their automatic monitoring for several years, taked hydrology monitoring stations near Yellow River at NingXia autonomous region and Inner Mongolia autonomous region where usually appeared icile disaster as applied background, referred to present main technologies about monitoring ice information, adopted embedded microprocessor technology, image information processing technology, mobile communicating technology and so on. In the system, hardware platform uses S3C2440A microprocessor based on ARM920T kernel. Software platform uses embedded Linux operating system. System utilizes USB CMOS camera to sample image of ice in river field, and adopts new ice-thickness sensor to sample ice-thickness and transfers data information by GPRS/3G communication technology. In order to enlarge system's application range, especially without city power situation, power system adopts the combined mode of solar energy and city power. The system as a whole has a small size, low cost, high reliability and so on.At first, this paper describes the research background and situation of the subject, and summarizes the main research content, and then introduces the overall design and work principle of embedded ice monitoring system. Then it briefly introduces the main related technologies used in the system, including embedded Linux operating system and its development environment, GPRS communication technology and 3G communicating technology that is strongly promoted. System hardware design described is divided into ice information monitoring instrument and on-site power supply system. Ice information monitoring instrument includes memory circuit design, LCD circuit design, TF card circuit design, USB circuit design and power circuit design, etc. Power supply system design focuses on analysis of system power consumption, application environment and cost. In the hierarchy, system software design is divided into embedded Linux system, device drivers and application program. Embedded Linux system includes U-Boot transplanting, Linux kernel transplanting and building the root file system. The driver program highlights USB driver and so on. The application program highlights image sampling program design. Finally the paper introduces application&debugging of the system and summarizes the whole system.
