Railway subgrade settlement observation is an important means to ensure the safety of the railway. The existing observational methods have many shortcomings that not high accuracy, requiring manual measurement, or difficult to get the absolute subgrade settlement measurement value.Design a system for subgrade settlement by laser measurement technology. This program is supported by 863 projects "subgrade settlement comprehensive real-time monitoring techniques" (2007AA11Z122).In this paper, the major tasks are as follows:Study a laser measurement method for measure the displacement and angle. And use it to measure the subgrade settlement.Completed the optical design for subgrade settlement measurement.Completed electronic systems for displacement and angle of the laser measurement, include circuit design, the programs in Micro Control Units.Experimental results show that the displacement measurement precision achieved 1μm in the 76mm range, angle measurement accuracy achieved 1 in the-0.5°to +0.5°range.
