ABSTRACT:P2P streaming media technology is adopted by large-scale streaming media applications and become the most popular implementation scheme on Internet now. However, P2P has more advantage over CDN and multicast when transferring streaming media service on the current network, but it has some obvious shortcomings. For example, most P2P users use ADSL to access the network, which results in a waste of bandwidth of receiver because the downlink bandwidth and uplink bandwidth of ADSL network is asymmetric. Furthermore, a large number of interactions are completed among users in the P2P streaming media network, which makes deception and camouflage are relatively easy. If these issues aren't considered, the performance of P2P streaming network will deteriorate quickly. Therefore, it is important to design an effective P2P streaming media management protocol that ensures the stability and efficiency of the P2P streaming media system. This paper describes the development of P2P streaming media and related technologies at home and abroad firstly, then analyzes several commonly used methods of inhibiting free riding behavior and discusses their advantages and disadvantages, based on which a management protocol of P2P streaming media network based on Polling was designed. It has four functions that are to identify user identification, judge the distance between the users, choose TOA and calculate the user's reputation value. In this protocol, an incentive mechanism based on share of local reputation was proposed, which is against the prevalence problem of the free riding. The incentive mechanism try to combine the user's QoS and contribution that the user contributed to the system, gives the nodes which made large contribution to system higher download speeds and priority. In addition, this incentive mechanism has the advantage of lower overhead and easily realizing compared with other types of incentive mechanism, and has become the widely used methods to inhibit free riding currently.
