Since the 60's, Videophone began to become a topic people talk about. Until the 90's, the application has carried out, but the market has been small and the scale grows slowly. As the fast development of the electronic technology and the communication technology, the information exchanges are no longer limited to voice and text, but also desire for a face to face communication. Therefore, the IP Videophone will become an inevitable trend of information development as the representative communications. At the same time, the development of 3G will provide a new impetus to the development of IP Videophone.This paper is to design an IP Videophone Terminal which follows the ITU-T's H.323 Protocol, which can be used in LAN. This paper analyzes the history and the current development status of the IP Videophone Terminal. A single-chip Solution is proposed which is based on DaVinci technology, with high-performance and low-cost solution. This paper studies its hardware and software design methods, initially Achieves The point to point video communication in LAN.Based on the study of the related chips, this paper completed the overall design of the hardware system and chip selection, designed the core board and the peripheral boards of MS320DM6446, and the design is given in detail about the video capture and display module, voice input and output modules, the network communication module, memory modules, human-computer interaction module, power management module and so on. This paper make use of Linux system to achieve the IP Videophone Terminal to send encoded video data, decode and playback video data after reception, send encoded voice data, decode and playback voice data at the same time. Video data is compressed According to H.264 protocol, voice data is encoded According to G.729 protocol, and the transmission in network follows the RTP/RTCP protocol. However based on the characteristics of Davinci, a multimedia player is also designed with G Streamer.By testing the system, it has achieved the IP Videophone Terminal basic functions, such as audio and video data collection, coding, RTP encapsulation, network transmission, RTP decapsulation, audio and video decoding and playback. The system has a smooth video and clear voice communication with strong real-time.
