The Design And Research Of Set Top Box In Happy-e-home Based On Davinci Technology

With the development of media resources like Internet media, Cable TV, Mobile TV,Personal media etc and media devices like PC, TV, Phone, PDA etc, China Telecom proposedthe"Happy-e-Home"concept on the base of"one Home". Happy-e-Home is designed to meetthe desire of increasingly diverse multi-media's source-sharing, and wide variety of mediadevices'net-sharing. It aims at connecting media devices in home with digital home network,based on UPnP or IGRS protocal. Media devices can join the digtal home networkautomatically and know about the presence of the other devices, and then supportresource-sharing and media-requiring service. Resouce-sharing is that device can share itsresource and use the sharing resources on the others with permit, for example, the televisioncan play sharing videos on the computer. Media-requiring means that device can meet therequire of playing or enjoying media from another, for example, PDA can require thetelevison playing its photos just captured.It needs a set-top box (STB) to achieve the above for the television, which make thetelevision intelligent and multifunctional. This paper developed and designed a STB for theHappy-e-Home on the base of Davice6446 module, uses the Davinci technology. It developedan embedded application with Qt, designed graphical user interface (GUI), and made theremote controller to be the only input device. The network programming realized thenet-connecting, resource-sharing and media-requiring functions based on UPnP protocol andXML technology. According the ARM+DSP dual-core feathure of the Davinci6446, this textdeveloped a media player with Gstreamer, and made the media decoding runed on DSP.The development also included embedded developing environment built and operatingsystem setup. It includes the establishment of cross compiler tool chain; the NFS and TFTPserver setup; the Uboot development; the Linux kernel plant; the Linux root file system builtetc. This text's work is an important part of the Happy-e-Home system, and it has done somebasic research for the STB's designing and developing. Moreover, it discussed the STB'sfuture improve and development at the end.
