The trend that China's Multimedia Networks is developing to wide band and IP centered brings the development the communication business of multimedia. H.264 is the latest video coding standard, it should greatly promote the research and application development.This paper analyzes and implements a H.264-based video phone terminal, the main work includes the implementation of terminal, OS porting, implementation of RTSP/RTP protocol, and H.264 DSP optimization. First, the characteristics of the H.264 standard and the principle of video codec is described in this paper. Second, the design and implementation of videophone terminal based on Blackfin533 are presented in this paper.The hardware design which includes the interface between Blackfin533 and peripherals,audio and video capture module,video display module,audio play module,power supply module and communication module is described in detail. The using OS is uClinux for its open-source and Micro-kernel, uClinux is well-suited to multimedia solutions, and it has the big advantage of network protocol. RTSP/RTP is the most crucial part of the H.323, and very important part of video phone, this paper gives RTSP/RTP introduce, design and implementation. Finally it optimizes the video decoder's software architecture from two sides: 1)reduce the necessary data memory and optimize the memory allocation; 2)fully take full advantage of the DSP's DMA system to speed up the code rate based on DSP platform.The expected performance is achieved according to the debugging results.
