As the rapid development of the multimedia, network technology and mobile communication, the application of video communication has become an inevitable trend. No matter in IP network or wireless mobile network channel, both the error and the loss of the data are always difficult to avoid. However, the compressed video data is very sensitive to the symbol, a small amount of symbol error can lead to lots of symbol can not be correctly decoded. To solve this problem, video error recovery and concealment become a critical, active cutting-edge technology in the field of video compression and communication. The major works described in this article are as follows.Firstly, I made a brief introduction to the structure of the H.264 codec, detailedly described the key technologies of H.264 standard, analysed the causes of error, the affect of error on the stream of video compression and the techniques of error detection and error control which were commonly used currently.Secondly, detailedly analysed the error concealment techniques of decoder, including spatial error concealment and temporal error concealment. Base on a detailed analysis of bilinear interpolation error concealment algorithm used by JM86 in intra frames, I studied an improved texture-based directional interpolation for I frame. Base on a detailed analysis of substitution method error concealment algorithm used by JM86 in inter frames, I studied an error concealment algorithm based on image residual analysis.Finally, detailedly introduced both theoretical basis and principle of improved algorithm which were proposed above. Then the algorithm is implemented on reference software JM version 8.6, the result of experiment shows that this algorithm has better error concealment effect than the reference software.
