With the development of network and communication techniques,multimedia(audio,data,video)communication become possible in various network platform. As a powerful,economical,and efficient communication mode,it brings about the flourish of economy and the improvement of society. Especially,with the fast development of video compression technology,low bitrate high quality video standards are proposed,and the dream of streaming video on network now become true.There are two key technologies in streaming video. The first one is video compression technology,without high efficient compression,video transmission on network is impossible. The other one is video communication technology. The destination of video compression is to improve the video quality in the given bitrate. The main topic of video communication is communication protocol,and the difficulty is how to avoid and reduce the communication errors and decrease the effect of these errors.After the historical background of video compression technology being introduced,some key compression algorithms are then proposed. Then,kinds of error control technologies such as resilient coding,error concealment,and feedback-based error control methods are introduced. Also our settle method is given. Then a video system on handset(palm) is introduced,and some tests are shown.
