Measurement of phased array antenna's radiation is a complex technical issues. In modern phased array radar, how can rapidly and accurately ascertain the element incentives of amplitude and phase, and to diagnose unit faults, are of great significance to the phased array antenna's development and validation. With the application of recent phased array antenna, its testing technology has put new demands. To meet this requirement, in order to get a fast measurement and diagnosis,we proposed a new method——phase-shifted measurement. The basic idea is that with the phase-array antennas and measurement probe remains fixed ,measure the received signal--amplitude and phase of phased array antenna , corresponding to different phase states. And then using mathematical algorithms, we deal with the experiment datas to determine channel incentives in any phase state, finally all patterns can be recovered only through a test result. At the same time, unit fault identification can be put up, which is the greatest strongpoint compared with other measurement.On the basis of basic theoretical research, we establish a mathematical model of the fast measurement; after studying the pattern of each element in its array, we proposed a method to compute the pattern definitely; we study on the methods to identify every channel excitation and the methods to diagnose element faults through assessing channel excitation in different phase states. Finally, we simulate a phased array antenna model using phase-shift measurement, which uses circle phase-shift control. The simulation results prove the validity of the method. This new technology has greatly reduced the research time, and its environment requirements are not very strict, thus this method is quite practical and useful in effect.
