As the network continues to expand, network topology has become more complex, so that network managements require more and become more difficult. The research on network topology scan and discovery techniques will help network managers better understand the network state, carry out safety precautions and optimize the management measures. So the research makes sense and has application value. This thesis's specific work is as follows:At the beginning, the thesis summarizes the various types of network topology discovery and scanning techniques. The corresponding algorithms of a variety of existing technologies such as SNMP, DNS, Traceroute, etc, have been analyzed detailedly. A topology discovery algorithm based on Traceroute and Ping, combined with scan technique, has been designed. Then, based on the research above, a network topology scan and discovery system with various functions modules has been designed and implemented. The concrete work is below: 1. Using packet-based detection technology Traceroute, build the network backbone node information collection module to obtain the backbone information; 2. Using the packet-based technology Ping, build the local subnet information collection module, to get access to the local subnet information; 3. By querying IP database files from network, build the IP node database information collection module, to determine the regional information and the address space size corresponding to the network IP nodes; 4. Using port scan, operating system scan, build the node further information collection module, to carry out further scan and obtain port state and Operating System information; 5. Build the information processing and storing modules. In the end, each function module in the thesis has been tested, and the relevant reslut stored in text file has been successfully used in network topology visual display.
