Design And Implementation Of TSM Plug-in Based On ASE Database

Backup and restore are two important aspects of database management system. Hardware and software can always be replaced but the customer's data may be irreplaceable. Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) provides database level backup and restore functionality using the Sybase Backup Server. Sybase Backup Server stores Sybase ASE database data on disk files or tapes. Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) is an effective storage management solution from IBM that supports various storage media and provides efficient storage management capabilities.After the analysis and research of the design and application of the software based on plug-ins, a plug-in of TSM based on ASE database is designed in this paper. Firstly, the theory of the plug-in and the running process of the plug-in system are introduced. Secondly, five key points of the architecture and the design models are introduced. Based on these, a proper design model is chosen for the plug-in in this project. Requirement analysis, design of key modules and the implementation procedure of major function of the plug-in are introduced.This plug-in has passed the internal testing of the company, It reached the expected goal of design, could be published as Beta Edition with the new ASE database product.
