Fiber Amplifier is one of the key components to realize all optical fiber communication network. Erbium-doped fiber amplifier is applied widely just now. However, the output power of erbium-doped fiber amplifier is 23dBm on the average,To improve the output power,it needs to increase the doping concentration and fiber length, while the doping concentration is too large, then the easier the formation of erbium ion clusters, resulting in concentration quenching.Yb3+ has a wider range of absorption spectrum (800 ~ 1100 nm), absorption cross-section lager than the Er-ions an order of magnitude, and it's energy level structure is simple, it can provide high gain . So Yb3+ is a very good sensitizer。Study on Erbium-ytterbium co-doped fiber amplifier EYDFA has practical application value.This paper studies the single-stage Erbium-ytterbium co-doped fiber amplifier, using the forward side-pumping technology. Optimize Ytterbium and erbium-doped concentration, fiber length and pump power to achieve optimal erbium ytterbium co-doped fiber amplifier. Using VPI to simulate its gain,noise figure, and output optical power. At the same time changing the input signal wavelength and power, to test erbium ytterbium co-doped fiber amplifier gain bandwidth and the input signal dynamic range. Get output power greater than 1W, noise figure NF <5dB, the gain bandwidth of 1540-1560nm, the range of signal input power between-10dBm and10dBm, small-signal gain higher than 40dB.Finally, the paper emphasizes the EYDFA used in FTTH, achieves 10G GPON reach 100km, the number of users 512, and receives the signal eye diagram and the minimum bit-error rate BER through simulation, it has good performance.
