Based on the application of practical project, this paper analyze and learn the basic functional requirements of textile CAD software, as well as cotton socks manufacturing techniques. The system of knitted cotton socks pattern design CAD was developed based on Delphi 7. The study includes the following five aspects:1. First introduce the popular algorithm of color quantization, and then analyses the special quantify requirements of color quantization when designing socks pattern. Based on the octree color quantization algorithm, raised a proper frequency-priority octree color quantization algorithm which is applied to cotton socks pattern design.2. According to cotton socks pattern type and characteristics of the machine instruction, research the lossless data compression algorithms. Raising an compression algorithm for socks pattern file which has nice compression performance and simple decompression algorithm. It is easy to be stored in the embedded systems and decompression.3. Combined the cotton socks manufacturing process requirements with computer graphics technology, this system has achieved the management of dynamic palette, the management of the color index, re-design common graphics API function and improved the scan line seed fill algorithm.4. In order to improving the flexibility during pattern design, proposed yarn configuration table structure. It is used with pattern file when generating machine instruction.5. The pattern design application and file format conversion application are developed and tested based on Delphi 7 platform. This system realizes the function of importing image form scanning, color quantization, pattern design, organizational structure design, yarn configuration, and machine instruction exporting.
