Information is one of the most important resources for Enterprises, which is the basis of scientific management, decision-making and analysis. The traditional transaction-oriented businesss system, are always inaquate on how to use these information while accumulating data. Data Warehouse (DW) is a system based on the businesss involved, desiged to help user to take full adventage of the valuable information resources and make right decisions. Among serval components in DW, the performance of ETL is the key factor of the successfully implementing the DW system. Developing the ETL is also the most time-consuming and work consuming part of the whole development of DW.However, there are always several problems in present ETL tools, the most typically is failed to complete between the ETL and other components of DW in conceptual level, though they are very powerful.To over come the problem, this paper presents the MDA(Model Driven Architecture) method used in the design and development of the ETL.In this paper, the MDA is applied in ETL technology; we put forward the DW development framework based on MDA, then with the help of UML profile and Common Warehouse Metamodel, model PIM (Platform Independent Model) model and PSM (Platform Specific Model) model and use the QVT (Query/View/ Transformation) specification of the Relation language define the transformation between on PIM and PSM of ETL. And implement this transformation in the open-source tool—mediniQVT. Moreover, implements transformation from PSM to SQL under EMF (Eclipse Modeling Framework) is which presented by IBM. Thereby, to realize a model-driven development process based on the model. In this way, the design of ETL can be specified in the early stages of a DW project, thus reducing the development time and cost.And apply this method on order-sale of an iron and steel enterprise. It indicates that the method in the paper increase the efficiency of System Development compares to the traditional method. Therefore, makes the model having more normative, realizes the share between models. Meanwhile, it profits the re-use and maintain of model.
