Metadata is used for building, maintaining, managing, and using the data warehouse. Metadata is data about data. The management of metadata is one of important technology for building the data warehouse system. Since every data management and analysis tool requires different metadata and a different metadata model to solve a data warehouse metadata problem, it is simply not possible to have a single metadata repository that implements a single metamodel for all the metadata in an organization. Instead, what is needed is a standard for interchange of warehouse metadata, and for multi-layer and multi-structure system. The CWM is a new response to these needs. This thesis is follows the CWM standard, also analyzes the deficiency of metadata management model, and suggests a data warehouse metadata management model base on common standard and repository technology. The model has been implemented on the Public Security Information System. Some works of the thesis asfollows:Firstly about the standard of metadata management, the thesis make a study of the CWM Meta data model, then describes the basic idea of Model-Driven Architecture. Meanwhile it analyzes CWM Meta data model with transformation package as an example.Secondly, this thesis makes a brief introduction to the concept of data warehouse and metadata. According to the characteristic of building the data warehouse for Public Security Information System, this thesis analyses the main process and the mode of building enterprise data warehouse, and also designs the application's function and deployed model for run time environment.Lastly, it makes basic researches on metadata, and analyzes the deficiency of metadata management model. Since the standard of metadata management hasn't been used wildly by major tools, in the last part of the thesis, it suggests a data warehouse metadata management model base on common standard and repository technology. In this model, the metadata that in conformity with CWM standard, can be integrated and interoperated. And for the metadata that mostly needed by business and management by current tools that can not support CWM so far, the model will establish a database to store the metadata exchanging and sharing metadata at data management layer. And will implement the service sharing when conform to some requirements.The data warehouse metadata management model base on common standard and repository technology can ensure the data warehouse metadata extendable, maintainable, robust and standardized, and can integration of diverse multi-vendor tools and applications, can offer significantly enhanced return-on-investment (ROI).
