Design And Implementation Of Web-Based Higher Education Examination System

With the rapid development and popularization of Internet/Intranet, the distance education mode based on it has become one of the future development directions. As a very important subsystem of distance education, online examination has been playing a decisive role and been a supplement to the local educational resources especially to the vocational educations in some remote districts. Network education has become a new driving force to the educational development.Taking Changchun Normal University, Lequn Branch as an object, this system was designed to meet this university's online examination need. The target was to utilize the campus network resources both in software and hardware so that their functions could be maximized to serve the school better in teaching, researching and managing. Online examination system plays a very important role in organizing network examinations so that teachers can have enough time to compose and correct test papers. Meanwhile online examination system has been highly praised by students for its justice.Started from implementation view, this paper discussed the development flow and implementation method of online examination system, compared the commonly-used algorithms of automatic test paper in item bank's management modules in particular and realized the popular verification code technology as well. Meanwhile this paper studied the design and implementation of web-based examination system, the system requirement analysis, summary design, details design and database analysis design in particular. The user'logging model, item bank management model and test paper management model have been elaborated emphatically.In implementation aspect, online examination system has following characteristics:1. Facilitating the maintaining and management of test questions by means of establishing test questions database.The establishment of test questions database will facilitate the test paper composers in inquiring and calling of the chosen test papers. It provides an easier way for the classification, searching and saving of test questions and makes it possible for a more effective composing of test papers. Electronic exam pool is a vital component of network examination system, as well as one of the most characteristic and practical modules in examination system.2. Composing test papers effectively according to the composing rules made by the composers.Relying on examination database system, network examination system can select questions automatically according to the paper-developing strategies made by teachers, which significantly improves the efficiency in compiling questions. Examination database system plays an auxiliary role in teachers'distance teaching.3. Having better performance in operating.Comparing with traditional paper testing form, computer examination system has better performance in its operability. It overmatches traditional paper test form in operating various test questions forms, such as video, audio, flash etc, especially the contents which has strong operability and interaction. Online examination system can adjust the questions swiftly according to students'answers.4. Making the examination and correcting procedure more standard, normal and reasonable.Using computer system to test and correct papers automatically, online examination system performs better in normative and rationality. Both the marks and patterns of standard test papers are strictly unified so that the circumstances, such as students losing points for forgetting writing down names and filling answer sheet incorrectly or misplaced, seldom happen. Because of the more normalized systematic restriction, students would not lose points in answering process for not following the requirements strictly. Correcting test papers automatically by the system improves accuracy significantly and avoids erroneous correcting, missed correcting and error of miscalculating the points which happens frequently in manual collating. The test results can be sent immediately back to the system administrators who release the results with their authorities.
