In recent years, with the rapid development of internet and wireless communication technologies, China has achieved more and more progress in information field. The demands of information as well as the quality of its service have increased significantly. The acquiring of information is expected to be real-time, effective, of low cost and convenient. This new requirement of using and transmitting information drives the innovation and development of information technology.Traditional internet and wireless phone service are among the most important methods to exchange information, however, the traditional network requires the user to have a passive access to information, and the information transmission of wireless phone services requires both sides to synchronize. In certain circumstances, the user's freedom is limited by time and space. The growing demand of information shows that people need to get rid of geographical and time limits, accessing information even when they are away from the traditional network. The usage of SMS provides the possibility of a convenient way to meet the requirement. Group sending SMS has many advantages such as: time saving, easy recording of the process of transactions, timely notification, low costing, and high efficiency. Therefore, using group sending platform can solve many problems occurring during the practical application. For example, a department of an enterprise often needs to send a notification to their employees, which will take a lot of time and troubles. If you use e-mail to notify the employees, the receivers may not check the inbox in time, which will make business and the transmission of information between employees lose their timeliness and effectiveness.SMS is not restricted by geographical limit, and as long as there is wireless network coverage, users can receive information any time. Furthermore, SMS services are not subject to time limitation. Base on the above two points, this paper describes the SMS management system. From the perspective of senders and receivers, we should focus on the convenience, availability, real-time to improve the efficiency of information sending and receiving.Using the MVC model, SMS management system is designed, and the entity-relationship model is applied to formulate both sending and receiving of messages and information content. Users'requirements can be divided into two classes: function requirement and usage requirement. And the former is our focus. This system uses VC6.0 development environment, and controls the SMS modem under the Windows XP platform. Since the system is designed for a small group of people, it uses access database as data storage. Using this system, people can save time and space in a more flexible way.The design for the main interface of short message management contains four parts: toolbar area, message content displaying area, professional operating area and SMS displaying area. The toolbar provides a button for writing new messages, and SMS content displaying area is used to show the messages to users. The professional operating area is used to manage, search and select the special group. SMS displaying area is used to show the information line according to receiving and sending messages as well as the time attribute. Users click the button which is on the toolbar and then the message interface will pop up. When the GSM modem is connected successfully, users can add contacts and write messages, after that, the messages can be sent out. As an important part of the SMS managing system, the receiving interface is used to manage the received messages. When the modem gets the replied message, it will trigger the system process and store the message into the database. Meanwhile, the SMS information will be displayed in the message displaying area. The users can also use the personal search of the tree to browse the flow of the information. When you select the messages in the operating area, SMS displaying area will show the users'flow of the messages. Click the message in the message display area, will trigger a display in the message displaying area.In order to improve the flexibility of the SMS, we offer two kinds of basic information configurations. One is to put the information such as personal information into the system database, using the existing database to complete the SMS management operation. The other is that the system provides a user interface to add new persons and professional information for the managers.The Short Message System will be used wider and wider with the development of technology and the functions will become more perfect, which will play a more important role in information field. As the time limited, there are still some disadvantages in the design and implementation of the system that will be improved in the future. I will improve this system in the function aspect, and make it more useful. It will work very well in school and enterprises. Through the designing and understanding the SMS system, I have got a more deeper comprehension on messages, group sending, system management, GSM modem,database and so on, which can be used in my future work.
