Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is a new information acquisition, processing and transmission technology, which integrates sensor, embedded computing, distributed information processing and wireless communication technology. As WSN has very wide application prospect, it has raised high attention from military circles, academic circles and industry circles in many countries in the world, people begin to carry out a lot of challenging study at two levels in basic theory and engineering technology. In practical application of WSNs, different business requires different Quality of Service (QoS) of network, and the study for QoS problem has become a new hot spot in this field. Firstly, the paper build a visual and controllable simulation interface using network simulator version 2 (NS2), which found on the study of characteristics of WSNs and protocol stacks. Users can configure network elements, build network freely through simulation interface, and know the operation of the entire network and key performance using specific animation demo process and performance analysis chart. It has realized the performance analysis of energy consumption, network delay, throughput and drop ratio of the network, made the complex process of simulation simple, speeded up the process of study and development for researcher.Secondly, energy-saving is the key issue of WSNs because of the limited battery energy of sensor node. Therefore the routing design of WSN should use energy efficient in order to extend the network life circle. According to the classic LEACH protocol, the paper presents a new strategy of cluster-heads selection, and arithmetic considers the remaining energy of node and location parameters synthetically through weighted thinking to optimize cluster-heads selection. The paper has carried out the designed LEACH-ED protocol on the user simulation platform, and designed simulation experiment of WSN to proceed to simulation study, the simulation result shows that LEACH-ED arithmetic can collect more scene data, and extend the network life circle effectively, it is more visible to the network energy-saving effect which is not balanced in the network initial energy. The paper is supported by 863 program under Grant No. 2006AAlOZ253.
