To overcome the shortcomings of traditional monitoring methods of water-dissolved oxygen, combining the fluorescence quenching detection and the GPRS(General Packet Radio Service) remote transmission technology, a remote monitor system for water-dissolved oxygen has been studied in this paper. Also, the design process, networking method of RTU (Remote Terminal Unit), and the design method of central server have been demonstrated. Building the GPRS wireless network between monitoring points and monitoring center relying on the GPRS network, the terrain limitation could be broken and data transmission between terminal units and monitor center is accomplished. Thus, functions such as real time data collection, remote data transmission and monitoring, and so on could be implemented.First of all, the working principles of the system, including the principle of DO measurement, GPRS transmission and virtual instrument monitoring, have been introduced in the paper. Secondly, the design flow and implementation processes of both hardware and software of RTU have been presented. The hardware components of RTU include the terminal controller, the data acquisition module, the GPRS transmission module. As well, the software design is aimed to guarantee the normal work of RTU. The monitor center is composed of the network communication module, the database management module and the data processing module, etc. By denoising and analyzing the collected fluorescence signals, useful signals could be obtained and measuring results could be displayed directly. Finally, the feasibility of the designed system has been verified by experiments.
