With the increasingly fierce market competition, it is a trend that enterprises use information technology to form virtual enterprise (VE) to gain greater competitive advantage. Grid, which is known as the"3rd generation Internet", has gradually grown into an important information technology by its power in integration of computing resource and information sharing. Virtual enterprise, due to its flexible, market demand-oriented characteristics, has become an advanced cooperation model. With the continuous development of information and network technology, the integration of virtual enterprise and grid technology is an inevitable trend. Since the existing grid security mechanism can not fully meet the requirement of virtual enterprise, it is very necessary to study on how to solve the security problem of virtual enterprise information system in grid environment. In this paper, we analyze the security requirement of the virtual enterprise information system in grid environment from the system point in detail based on the Grid Security Infrastructure (GSI), as well as give a precise description of the security service-oriented virtual enterprise grid based on the ontology theory. Then we propose a security model of virtual enterprise information system in grid environment which has four logical levels: member enterprise security service layer, security infrastructure layer, global security service layer and security application service layer. Detailed components dividing and function designing is also given then. At last, a lightweight, non-certificate authentication protocol is given considering the lack of existing authentication scheme and then we propose a specific single sign-on solution based on the protocol.
