MIMO-OFDM technology,which can cope with frequency selective fading, increase data rate and system capacity effectively,will be the key technology of 4G mobile communication system.Firstly, an overview of wireless fading channel is given. Secondly, principles and key technologies of OFDM, channel capacity of MIMO system, applications of MIMO technology, Space-Time Coding classification, encoding and decoding methods are discussed. Especially, Space-Time Block Coding (STBC), Layered Space-Time Block Coding (LSTBC) are given in a detailed discussion. Thirdly, the system principles and performances of combination of MIMO and OFDM are analysed, much attention is paid to STBC with OFDM and LSTBC with OFDM. Finally, the dissertation discusse the design and implementation of LSTBC structure of a MIMO-OFDM transmitter using FPGA, with detaled presentation of every module.In order to verify the correctness of theoretical analysis of this dissertation, comparision of the simulation curves of V-BLAST-OFDM, LSTBC-OFDM and STBC-OFDM system is made in MATLAB. During the design and implementation of MIMO-OFDM transmitter, the functions of channel coding, constellation mapping, LSTBC, IFFT and other modules are achieved by Verilog programming and IP cores. Finally, Quartus II 9.0 is used to prove the correctness of the design.
