The expansion of development and application demands for science and technology promotes the extensively application video technology. It is necessary that digital video systems replace traditional analog ones, and the embedded video system attach too much significance because of its low cost, intelligence and miniaturization. Under this background, the video collection system based on embedded Linux is designed and realized, and the key technology about the system is studied in depth.The hardware core of embedded system is embedded processor; the software core is embedded operation system. In this thesis, embedded video collection system that based on ARM processor is designed. For the design patterns, embedded processor S3C2410, USB camera and LCD based on OV511 are the main framework, embedded operation system Linux2.6.8 is the support, then the acquisition, display and treating of data is performed with high speed. The USB driver is implemented and the LCD driver is transplanted. Algorithms for video data collection found on ARM are analyzed in depth, and the video data acquisition is realized by invokes the API of Video4Linux. The buffer area of LCD display is mapped to user's memory field by using mmap technology, which makes the read and write operation for memory can be done directly to reduce time. Therefore, the display of real-time video with high velocity is come true. Principle and design technique of double buffer applied, the concurrency between video data acquisition and video display is realized, and compared with conventional single-frame video collection, the treatment performs are improved effectually. The test results show that this system meets the requirements for video monitor, characterized by high response speed, small volume and low power, so that the expected aim of the project is achieved.
