To solve the problem of long period and high cost for fault diagnosis and repair of broaching machine, a remote monitoring system of broaching machine based on GPRS/Internet is studied. The overall structure, functions and process of the system are introduced. The composition of hardware on the terminal subsystem is introduced, including programmable logic controller, GPRS module, video and data acquisition module and so on. And the method of data acquisition for the parameters of broaching machine operating is described. Emphatically, the key points of design and implementation methods of the applications and networking operated on the terminal on broaching machine and the center server are presented.This paper is divided into six chapters. In Chapter One, the overviews of broaching machine, remote monitoring system, and GPRS network are given. In Chapter Two, the problems to be solved are analyzed, and the overall structure of the system are introduced. Furthermore, the analysis and descriptions of every hardware parts on the terminal subsystem are given emphatically. In Chapter Three, the design of the application in the terminal computer is described. The method of critical sections is introduced to solve the problem of Multi-threaded resource conflicts; and a kind of console interface configuration based on text is introduced in the demand of interface configuration of the product. Furthermore, the programming methods of serial communication, the video card's SDK, and the data acquisition card are given. In Chapter Four, the software on the center server is designed, including the register module, remote monitoring module, remote diagnosis module. And the remote diagnosis expert system based on CLIPS and the fault tree are introduced. In Chapter Five, the approach of networking communication is given from three aspects: network connection, network communication protocol and socket programming. Chapter Six is the summary of the system and the prospect of the system's expansion using embedded technology and workshop Ethernet.
