Stereoscopic display technology is one of the most important technologies in virtual reality system. According to the Theory of Computer Vision, the left viewpoint and right viewpoint can be achieved by translating both the original viewpoint and view direction for a certain distance. Use these two viewpoints to generate two images, and displayed by two projectors that equipped with special glass, then we achieve stereo vision if wear the special spectacles.The parallel rendering system that support for 360 degree high resolution stereoscopic display and its applications that we will discuss in this paper is a part of the whole distributed virtual reality system. How to use existing rendering engine to render three-dimension scene with full vision on the 360 degree multi-projector display system and how to achieve the stereo panorama and further applications are the main research work in this paper.In this paper, we propose and implement the cylindrical projection method according to the characteristic of 360 degree multi-projector system, and give the method to calculate the parameters of the camera. We divide the whole method into two procedures to make it easy to implement. In the issue of 360-degree stereoscopic projection display, we apply the multiple viewport display technology to parallel rendering system. By dividing the whole cylindrical surface to some sub regions, we resolve the problem.In the final part of this paper we successfully use the technologies that discussed above, and VisionixEngine rendering system to build an urban planning and simulation system. We implement the automatic camera navigation module, GUI display module, multi-user collaborative design and operation , adaptive solution compare function, a variety of interaction functions such as data glove, touch screen, voice control.and etc.
