With the development of multimedia technology and popularization of network technology, the multimedia interactive application which was in the main form of graphic, video, audio and interaction before seem to hardly meet the demand of customers. In the application area of distance education system and geographic information system, the request of information and data interaction between multimedia interactive application and database is getting higher and higher. As the most widely used multimedia interactive application tool so far, Adobe Director is weak in its database access and operation function aspects. When the interactive applications are needed to be developed via multimedia database, Adobe Director has been lacking of a good solution, and it leads to limits for its range of use.This article starts with introducing the differences between several ways of data access and operation by introducing and analyzing them, and then contrasts the similarities and differences of features between Director and Flash, and takes advantage of Flash, which is excellent about its XML and web technology, and uses for reference about the characteristics about RIA application, forms the way of communication via Flash and server in Director, and makes it have the ability of accessing and operating database. By accessing data via Flash, we can use Director as a human-computer interaction interface to get users' requests, and transmitting information and data between Director and Server-side by Flash which is used as a communication tool. And then server-side accesses and inquires the database and return the multimedia data information.This model uses three levels of framework which is bound with the similar means of developing Web application programs by a standard and high efficient way, which makes Director have the ability to develop large-sized multimedia database, and makes the application framework more clear and efficient and easily-maintained and easily-extended. For testing and verifying the feasibility of this model, it is applied in the digital media sharing platform for Olympics project. This project is developed by this model is a large-sized interactive application of technology support of multimedia database, which is developed on the basis of multimedia database that contains pictures and videos, and realizes the function of searching, saving and publishing in the database, meanwhile, it also realizes the seamless integration and transmission between short message service port in China Mobile and mail port on mobile phone. During the process of developing, on the grounds of the model that accesses data between Director and Flash, and defines the framework of the system and its function modules, and fixes the developing port among modules, transmitting ways, and message format. The platform receives messages between visitors and multimedia human-computer interface, which is developed by Director, and the messages and data are transmitted between server and database via Flash, and let the server finish its service logic. Implemented smoothly, this system realized its original established function very well, and operated stably during the Olympic Games and a few other exhibitions and activities for foreign countries.Through this project, the feasibility of Flash accessing data via Director and developing the multimedia interactive applications which is driven by database has been checked, and it has obtained an expected result.
