Research On Distributed Large-size Multimedia Database Construction

With the development of computer technology, distributed database has made extensive application. Since 80's, the multimedia technique rose quickly. It has changed the peoples' life style, made .a large development of various industries and. is causing some adjustment of the exist industrial structure. Along with the development of multimedia application, the multimedia database appeared based on . the traditional database.Distributed multimedia database is a product by combining distributed database and multimedia database technique. The distributed multimedia database, especially large-scale , has gotten more and more values in recent years. It has been used widely in education, medical treatment, culture, tour, government management, E-commerce etc. In our country, some such systems already have been set up. But relative theories, design and practice methods have to be studied furtherly.This thesis aims at the construction of large-scale distributed multimedia database in order to completing the multimedia educational resource database system of Zhejiang Wanli University(WLMRSDS). In this thesis, We define the system as four layer model: the browser—middleware—database—file system(or Hyperlink) . We also discussed the selection of database, the development tool, the system environment and the data organization, the function model, classification and coding of multimedia data in WLMRSDS. And then system safety, data replication policy and user management model are statemented.For a conclusion, we give a system which is easy to be expanded and can be used for building distributed multimedia database in education and other fields. The work in this thesis will be beneficial to other similar system, and will give new thought to the development of large-scale distributed multimedia database.Large-scale distributed multimedia database is a complex system. The multimedia educational resource database system of Zhejiang Wanli University(WLMRSDS) needs to be improved in practice . There still have some works that we should do after this thesis which concerned with increasing the functions, connecting this system with the uniform identity authentication of digital campus, using data mining technology to aid the teaching and teaching management.
