Collaborative Virtual Environment developed from a combination of Virtual Reality technology and Network technology, is Multi-user shared Virtual Environment based on the Internet relevant standard protocol and to enable multi-users to interact in a shared 3D scenes and accomplish a task collaboratively. The research includes how to support multi-users collaborative work in virtual scene, how to aware the other user and how to establish rational interactive mode in multi-users. This paper has a deep study on collaborative awareness technology, and then some achievements are obtained as follow:1. Based on the deep analysis of Distributed Virtual Reality technology and Awareness technology, User Avatar Mode is proposed in virtual scenes. UAM is the accurate description of the user's attribute of participant collaborative work that effectively support user's awareness by analysis and establishing all kinds of characteristic parameters and components of supporting user collaborating.2. Through analysis tradition collaborative awareness mode, visual collaborative awareness mode is proposed. Multi-user awareness defines user's collaborative rangs and collaborative granularity through applying logical awareness policy, and realizes multi-user interaction and awareness in different levels in shared Distributed Virtual Environment.3. It studies the collaborative interactive mode and realized methods, analyses the excellence and shortcoming of the traditional concurrency control algorithm and the centralized concurrency control based on token is proposed. The algorithm can effectively avoid these shortcomings, and solve the conflict problem with the maximum.4. This paper analyses characters of VRML and Java, uses flat irrespectively of VRML and strong network access ability of Java, designes and realizes a virtual scene supporting collaborative awareness.In this paper, the result of research not only enriches existing theory of multi-user shared virtual environment, but also provides a solution of collaborative interaction and concurrency control. Both building of user avatar mode and collaborative awareness mode, and proposing of centralized concurrency control arithmetic based on token, provides a theoretical basis for the building of virtual laboratory, and has achieved good operating results.
