The Applied Research Of Virtual Reality Technology In Architectural Heritage Protection

Many rare and precious cultural relics have been endangered with the world's entering into the new millennium. It is urgent and important to take saving measures for the protection of some precious historical buildings. At present, virtual heritage concept of browsing and roaming of humanistic history and geography of the heritage by using the virtual reality(VR) technology has been widely accepted worldwide because it is playing a very important role in terms of research, protection and introduction of humanistic history and physical geography.This abstract shows the study in the application of VR technology for protection of architectural heritage based on the actual cases. To solve the problems of the subjective and objective in architectural heritage protection with VR technology, it is trying to explore the method of protection with VR technology and work out the solution in practice with some cases.Firstly this abstract introduces VR technology and its development and application in architectural heritage protection at home and abroad. It analyses a series of problems and advantages of VR technology in architectural heritage protection. Some cases are given to study the application including 3D construction method and principle based on virtual interactive historical and cultural relics, development and optimization study based Virtools 3D virtual interactive system of architectural heritage.A detailed study in application of VR technology for architectural heritage protection has been undertaken by taking HUISHAN Garden of historical HUISHAN Town as an example. It shows how the initial cultural heritage data is preserved without destroying cultural heritage, natural ecology and living conditions, which provides designer and manager basis of making decisions visually and scientifically.In the end, a conclusion and expectation is given. The development of VR technology in architectural heritage protection is a great significance with extremely broad application prospect although some restricting factors existing.We can believe that, the constantly application of VR technology in the field of architectural heritage protection will greatly promote the improvement of research in the entire field andthe application development of VR technology.
