| With the development of video coding technologies and the release of a series of international standards, digital video, such as video conference and video disk, has been widely used in many fields. But with the emergence of HDTV and mobile video etc., it has become more and more difficult for these previous video compression technologies to suffice the demands of the above video applications. To solve this problem, after years' of research, ITU-T and ISO/IEC jointly developed a new video coding standard-H.264 in 2003. Since the time it was published, the new standard has already received wide attentions in the industry and academic study because of its better performance in compression efficiency, image quality and network adaptability. And now it is considered to be one of the most promising video coding standards in the future. To improve the performance, H.264 uses many new technologies, such as intra prediction, multi-reference-frame motion estimation, Rate-Distortion Optimum and so on, while these new features also bring new challenges for error concealment and rate control. Thereby, after a detailed introduction of H.264, we will make a deep research on error concealment and rate control. Here is the major content of the paper:Firstly, error concealment algorithms are studied. Considering the inter coding features of H.264, a new temporal error concealment algorithm based on multi-mode overlapping is proposed, in which a macro-block is covered with multi-mode. This new algorithm can effectively improve the quality of the reconstructed image.Secondly, research on the rate control algorithm of H.264.By anglicizing the drawbacks of JVT-G012, this paper gives a new picture layer bit allocation scheme, and can helps to achieve a better performance.Verifying these two schemes on JM86 which is the standard test platform of H.264, results show that the presented schemes have certain advantage and practicality. Finally, this paper summarizes the research achievements, and proposes the future works. |
