With the development of information technology and the improvement of machine system integration and intelligent, more and more equipments need to communicate with each other and thus M2M conception comes into being. With 3G development, M2M data-transmission service will be a large market because of function improvement and cost reduction of mobile communication network. The core of this paper is to reserch the data-transmission for machines based on M2M using mobile communication technology. This paper innovates and designs an universal M2M data-transmission system based on GPRS and the system can achieve particular application of M2M system through the second development, which has the guiding significance in theory and practice.Based on main data-transmission application scene, the design of the universal M2M system, including multi-port data-transmission terminal and data center platform, is the main content of this paper. The data-transmission terminal uses MC55 as the core of the M2M net communication and it consists two parts, including GPRS communication board and multi-port control board. Using modular design method, Siemens GPRS module MC55 is the core part of GPRS communication board and TL16C554 is the core part of multi-port control board. Reliable communication mechanism and multi-port mechanism are researched and designed in order to realize the M2M data-transmission terminal based on GPRS. Data center interacts with terminals through software designed in this paper.This paper studies the key technologies involved in the reseach and design and proposes a reasonable solution. Firstly, the correlated technologies are briefly presented such as M2M, GPRS, CRC, etc. Secondly, the design of the M2M system is introduced from three parts: the total design of system, hardware platform design and system software design. The total design of the system refers to the network-building choice, system function and structure, system protocol design, etc. In the hardware design, in order to reduce the cost and enhance the universal function, the AT89C55, TL16C554, MC55 are chosen as the key part to develop multi-port GPRS data-transmission hardware terminal based on MC55. The software design is to develop the drivers for the hardware modules, multi-port mechanism, reliable GPRS communication mechanism for data-transmission based on AT command, software system for data center. At the same time the R&D and debugging methods in this project are introduced. After the design is completed, this system is tested and satisfies the request of the design in the on-board data-transmission application scene. Finally, the extended function of the system and the further research direction are proposed.
