With the development of computer network technology, virtual reality technology and virtual visualization technology, network-based cooperative design and virtual visualization technology is gradually being used in product design and simulation area. Using Internet, cooperative design technology connects distributed design resource into one shared cooperative design environment. It sets up an interactive communication and work platform, which improves the design efficiency and resource usage rate. However, cooperative design is only based the Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology, which can be hardly used in collision detection, product assembility, dynamic analyse. Due to the above reason, virtual visualization technology is gradually introducted into cooperative design platform. Using virtual visualization technology, the cooperative design platform can clearly and vividly display the feature of products. With the expansion of virtual simulation interface, it can also simulate virtual manufacture and virtual assembly, which decreases the product cost in manufacture, assembly and maintance.Consulted a great number of references and combined former project experience, a Vega based cooperative virtual visualization platform is proposed. A Vega-based virtual visualization structure along with model transforming from CAD format to virtual reality format, network communication model design and implement, and concurrent control and right management in cooperative interactive environment is deeply researched.Using Vega as the virtual visualization tool, an MFC/Vega-based cooperative virtual visualization platform is established. This paper includes the establishment of virtual visualization environment, the design of mouse-keyborad based interactive operation interface, model transforming from CAD format to virtual reality format and interaction in network virtual environment. Using third party software PolyTrans and Creator, the format of models can be transformed and the model structure can be optimized. Lynx graphic user interface provided by Vega can add the model transformed by PolyTrans into virtual sense we build. A communication model with multi-layer structure is establish, which is implemented by windows socket in TCP/IP protocol. Using lock and role management method, the interactive information concurrent control and right management are implemented.In the end, two manual valves have been taken as an instance to realize the process of a Vega-based virtual visualization platform in cooperative design environment. In the platform, operators can interactively control the virtual manual valves in distributed networks and other operators in the platform can cooperatively watch the valve position change at the same time. The server can manage the control requirement sent from clients, which implementes vitual visualization in cooperative environment and verifies the feasibility of cooperative design environment virtual visualization.
