Smart home is the combination of modern electronic technology, communication technology and the automation technology. It can realize automatic control, management of appliances and home security alarm monitoring. The system can also provide users with convenient and efficient living environment.The world's first intelligent building was founded in Connecticut State of U.S. in 1984. People used computer system to monitor and control the devices such as air-condition, elevator, lighting in the old building. The system can also provide voice communications, e-mail, information and data information services, etc. Subsequently, The United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and Southeast Asia's relatively developed countries put forward a variety of smart-home program. In May 1998, Singapore launched the Singapore model of intelligent home systems. The system provides the following features: security alarm, video intercom, centralized monitoring, appliance control, cable TV access, phone access, information Guestbook households, intelligent control panels, intelligent routing boxes, broadband Net access and system software configuration, etc. China sets foot in this area very late, it is imperative to develop and implement a smart home control system according to the nation's current situation.The main functions of smart home system include home security alarm, telephone remote control, infrared remote control and automatic meter reading, etc. It can work on wired network and wireless network. Wired network use phone lines or power line carrier communication network; wireless networking technology mainly includes Home RF, Bluetooth and Home PAN, etc.In this article a phone line network based smart home system is designed. In the system, DTMF codec HT9200A and HM9270D are used as modem to realize alarming function and communication between the out world and the alliance.We designed a concise, low cost and flexible system in this article. It's mainly composed of DTMF codec circuit, ring detecting circuit, phone pick and hangs up circuit. All functions of the system are controlled by a MCU chip and it performs well in the trials.
