Study On The Report Of "Time" Magazine That Reported On China During The War Of Liberation

In the international communications, it is a fact without dispute that there are many factors influencing the construction and understanding of the images of other countries.On one hand, as a kind of "image", the image of other country is not a reasonable judgment but some kind of impression. On the other hand, it changes with the history, but it is stable in a certain period. The media is a force that can not be underrated to shape and construct the images of other countries. American media, with their strong economy, advanced technology, rich experience in communications and the advantage of its language, play a significant role in the construction of the images of other countries. Therefore, the study of American media's reports on China is meaningful in theory as well as in practice.This thesis takes Chinese symbols of TIME Magazine covers as its research objectives, and chooses all report that magazine ranging from Aug.8, 1945 to Sep.30, 1949, which involving China during the War of Liberation reported. By the research on Chinese symbols of TIME magazine, the images of China given by TIME magazine are analyzed. What is more, the images of China from perspective of American nation's interests in different periods are also summarized so as to point out the influence of ideology of TIME magazine cover under the framework of American interests. These reports are inevitable in long run, and in special period, they also have the deep complicacy with political, historical and cultural reasons.
