Wireless Ad Hoc networks has many characteristics: self-organizing, non-center, multi-hop routing, limited node capability, unreliable wireless com-munications medium and dynamic topology, etc. Wireless Ad Hoc networks need simplification and localization within its designing, which is to be adapted to limited node capability; But simplification and localization are often contradictive to above characteristics. How to find a middle course between simplification, localization and negative characteristics is now a wireless Ad Hoc networks research hot spots.By analyzing the characteristics and architecture of wireless Ad Hoc networks, the paper nail down that topology control is very significative to improve the performance of wireless Ad Hoc networks. The paper propose a distributed topology control algorithm with minimum-energy property in final topology and its topology maintenance mechanism replying the topology variety. The algorithm is simple to realize. To ensure network connectivity and minimum-energy property in the premise, the algorithm remove the redundant links with high transmission loss as far as possible. It have proved the feasibility of the algorithm and superiority compared to other algorithm based on the minimum-energy property.Based on the above topology control algorithm, this paper also proposes a combinated weighted clustering algorithm. The algorithm take the maximum relay times, the remaining energy and average relative mobile velocity as reference factors for determining the weight of the node. It maximize the use of messages exchanged between nodes in topology control procedure, and the algorithm has given full consideration to the network property and energy balance factor. Finally, with analyzing and comparing to the other clustering algorithms, it have proved its superiority in the rational use of energy.
