With the rapid development of modern communication technology, multimedia communication has become the inexorable development trend of communication services. As traditional voice service can't meet a requirement, image information transmission has become the basic service for modern communication system. The distinctive feature of image processing is the gigantic quantity of data. Especially for real-time image transmission, enough processing speed is also needed. DSP can rapidly realize various digital signal processing algorithms as the basic digital signal processing hardware tool, and it has been widely used in many kinds of fields recently such as real-time image processing, image monitoring and so on.In view of the above characteristics of communication services and DSP technology development, this paper designs the software of mobile telephone real-time image browsing platform based on TI fixed-point DSP chip TMS320DM642.The main function of this platform is to capture live video information, and then process the video information in DSP image processing system, finally send the image to mobile telephone users to browse by network.RF5 and DSP/BIOS real-time kernel are both used in the software design. The frame is compact and program is so portable. Considering the complexity of DSP application system, this paper adopts the improved"classs/mini-driver model"to develop the drivers of video capturing and displaying, which allows software to reuse major portions of similar device drivers and simplify the driver development processs. TI's JPEG algorithm function library is used to realize image compressing, which has greatly improved the operation efficiency and enables image real-time transmission. The communication between DM642 and mobile telephone is based on network transmitting and CGI is used to send WAP webpage information, so it doesn't need special wireless module.Moreover, the system proposes a formula to make JPEG image adapt the screen size of mobile phones automatically. The system software is easy to upgrade and runs stably, so it can be used for real-time video monitoring in kindergarten, or traffic monitoring, real-time tourist spot publishing and so on. The experiment result shows that this system has both high processing speed and good image quality.
