Accompany with the development of Internet/Intranet, holding video conference by using Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) becomes very popular for companies since it may improve work efficiency and reduce costs. At the same time, with the advantage of video conference, the network scale of video conference is greater than ever. There are more and more research and development activities to get high-capacity and high-performance MCU. Therefore, how to measure the protocol conformance and audio/video codec processing ability also becomes an important thesis. In traditional way, test engineer may use real terminals to measure MCU's performance and judge MCU's performance by observing whether the calls can be setup normally and whether the audio/video media steams can be received/sent normally. It is a simple but cost way. For those small and medium-size companies that cannot afford real terminals, MCU's performance test can not be implemented at all. Therefore, it is worthy to find a reasonable and efficient way for MCU's performance test.The way shall have two conditions: one is the implementation of a H.323 software terminal and its parameters can be set according to test contents and the other is the software terminal can be integrated with the main stream performance test tool—LoadRunner. In addition, whether software terminals can be realized, whether the protocol stack is open source and whether the test deployed easily shall be taken into consideration.The thesis first analyze the shortcoming of traditional test way and the factors which influence MCU performance test, and bring forward a test plan based on open source H.323 library and LoadRunner. Then, the thesis provide details on how to use file I/O as audio/video input and how to configure capability-set, codec parameter and call mode to meet the test requirement. Next, the method of using LoadRunner as concurrence control generator would be introduced. At last, the thesis compares the test results of the test method with that of real terminals and verifies such test method is reasonable and correct.The test method may not only be used for H.323 MCU performance test, but also can be referred by other VoIP's performance tests due to its strong universality.
