The key department of electric power system operation is the electrical power dispatching system. Energy Management System (EMS) is an important system which processes data acquisition, supervision and control for the equipments of electric power net by used computer, communications and the technology of automation in order to realize the auto-measure, auto-signal, automation and auto-adjustment. With the advancement of electric power enterprise informationization, many integrated and distributed applied–systems have been established in electric power corporations. It not only increases the efficiency of electric power system operation, but also brings some problems. Because these systems were development during different periods, the data and the style of report forms between them may conflict. These problems put forward the demand of interoperability between the systems. The basic precondition for the realization of the interoperability is to create a uniform standard between different products of different systems.The 57th technology committee of the International Electro technical Commission (IEC) put forward the sequence of IEC61970 standard for the EMS during the period of 1990, and it also clearly put forward a standard of Common Information Model (CIM) for the interchange of electric power net model information. But the research for the graphics interoperability between electric power graphics and electric power net was started recently, the format for the graphics interchange do not have mature international standard now. Hence, how to exchange graphics and data of power net with IEC61970-CIM has become a popular topic. The main results of this paper are described as follows:1. Study the standard of IEC61970-CIM and do some primary research for the data exchange of the electric power system. The technology of object-oriented, extensible markup language (XML) and the specific of documentation object model (DOM) are generally used to study the interoperability of electric power graphics and the combination of data information and method of data storage.2. Try to parse the CIM/XML documents of power net by using DOM in JAVA language.3. By learning some knowledge of data structure, develop a data model based on "7-level-Tree" and a data model based on "Topological Graphic" to store the data of power net after parsing the CIM/XML document.4. Investigate the data storage module of ABB private system (DE). Compare the storage structure of DE with CIM/XML documents. Develop the method to insert data from the'7-level-tree'model and the'Topological Graphic'model to DE.
