With the development of computer technology and the constant innovation of modern educational ideology and teaching means, computer assisted instruction is being put into a wider use. As an important part of CAI, item bank system is also receiving more and more attention. Under such a circumstance, establishing item bank system which can meet the demand is of great significance for every institution of higher education to improve students'learning and teachers'teaching.Based on theories like Cognitive classification theory, Self-regulated learning and inquiry learning theory, this thesis has clarified the guiding ideology for the design of item bank system for the course The Theory and Application of Database. With ample knowledge of the content and feature of this course, the thesis has also established some principles for editing of the item bank system. Then, after analyzing the survey on users of the item bank (mainly teachers and students), as well as some parameters of the item bank such as major question types, difficulty and differentiation index, and designing the distribution of knowledge points in the questions and the proportion of difficult and key points, the thesis has developed a minimal sized item bank applicable to this course. Making use of the item bank system, teachers can use needed questions taken out from the bank in the teaching, and they can also acquire a feedback on the effect of class teaching by collecting the assignments finished by students. Students can do unit and comprehensive exercises, solidify their learning and check and makeup for the weakness of their learning.Designed in a simple and practical way, the item bank is efficient and with great openness and expandability, which is able to assist teachers'teaching and students'learning. The features of the item bank system includes as follows:(1)The item bank is organized by unit and knowledge points instead of depending on a specific textbook, which gives a certain extent of freedom in textbook selection.(2)Questions in the item bank is very inclusive, with a coverage of all the major knowledge points. There are a certain number of questions of different difficulty for each cognitive classification and knowledge point, and with more types of questions for key points.(3)Questions for the key or difficult parts like database search language, database designing and transaction processing are even more plentiful. The item bank encloses detailed answers for reference to some questions, which is helpful to students'self-regulated study and independent thinking, and in a way offset the shortcoming of class instruction.To a certain extent, the research of this thesis is able to assist teachers of database course to finish the teaching task better, guide students'self-regulated learning, provide teaching resources for course development for college and universities, alleviate the impact of faulty shortage and improve the teaching of this course.
