Nowadays, in the paper-making industry, paper defects are mainly detected through artificial means. To obtain the automatic control of the detection process, acquisition of paper image is always required. Image process features resource- and time-consuming data processing. To implement the real-time capture and processing of digital image, the TMS320DM642 system and Camera Link line-scan digital camera are used here, along with the mini-driver library.Firstly, the paper defect detection system is introduced in the thesis briefly, including the overall system structure and the performance estimation based on the data transmission bandwidth and computation capability.Secondly, the hardware platform design of the detection system is elaborated, involving the properties of TMS320DM642 and Camera Link interface. The design skills and schematic diagrams of TMS320DM642 system are presented here, involving modules such as power-supply, power-supervising, clock circuit Ethernet transmission, memory, Universal Asynchronous Transceiver (UART), Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD) and Camera Link-Video Port interface.Thirdly, based on Reference Framework 5 (RF5) provided by Texas Instruments Inc., the DSP/BIOS application development on Code Composer Studio 2 (CCS2) is introduced in the thesis. The infrastructure and block composition of the system is described in detail, with focus on the development of the video capture block.Finally, the debugg process and testing results are provided in the thesis, including the validation of the testing result as well as the performance improvement analysis.
