It is an irresistible trend that television network, telephone network and computer network merge into an integrated one. However, existing network architectures are hard to supply QoS provisioning for different applications. SUPANET (Single physical layer User-data switching Platform Architecture NETwork), introduced by Sichuan Network Communication Key Laboratory (SC-Netcom Lab), simplifies the user-data transfer platform (U-platform) into a single physical layer and embed QoS mechanisms into it. In this way, SUPANET can efficiently provide the QoS required by different applications.QoSNP is an important part in SUPANET, which negotiated one Virtual Line and obligated the quota to meet the QoS provisioning for different applications. It is very important to improve and perfect the QoSNP to make it more capable when providing the QoS. This thesis focuses on perfect the QoSNP, making it has more functions. The user can use different functions for different needs. Multi-granularity QoSNP is the major consideration in this thesis. It resolves the loop problem, dynamically adjust quota issue, and support the multicast which is not in-depth considered in the early version of QoSNP.There are three new operations in Multi-granularity QoSNP (MQoSNP), New, Add and Dec. The New operation which introduces a new scheme for avoiding loop is to resolve the loop problem in a cyclic network topology. The Add operation can increase the quota of one Virtual Line and improve the QoS according to user' needs. The Dec operation is opposite to Add operation which can decrease the quota of one Virtual Line according to user' needs. MQoSNP can make Virtual Line negotiation and network resource usage more effective. Meanwhile, the thesis analyzes the potential exceptions and provides the relative optional solutions. This thesis raises a new QoS negotiation manner, Reverse Single-Direction Negotiation (RSDN), after analyzed the special feature in the multicast applications. Besides, three new operations are added in MQoSNP to support the End-system group membership management at UNI (User-Network Interface) and Intermediated-system members joining or pruning in multicast trees at NNI (Network -Network Interface). Finally, MQoSNP is carried out to validate its feasibility and capability by means of OPNET Modeler with two topology network environments, one for the unicast and the other for the multicast.
