The general background of the research work presented in this dissertation is SUPANET (Single physical layer User-data transfer & switching Platform Architecture Network) which is a kind of Next Generation Internet technology introduced by SC-Netcom Lab. SUPA separates User-data transfer & switching platform (U-platform) from Signaling & Management platform (S&M-platform) by adopting the out-band signaling concept. SUPANET simplifies User-data transfer & switching platform (U-platform) to a single physical layer platform, while it still keeps current protocol stacks of Internet in the Signaling & Management platform (S&M-platform) to enable interoperation with traditional Internet.In recent years, Ethernet is expanding to MAN(Metropolitan Area Network) and WAN(Wide Area Network) fields with its own advantages. As Ethernet is the most widely used technology and because of the rapid growth of its service, more and more providers and Equipment developers begin to pay attention to the research of carrier Ethernet. In order to support various kinds of carrier service, traditional Carrier Ethernet technology emerge as the times require. One of the rival technology of Carrier Ethernet technology is PBT(Provider Backbone Transport). PBT technology is based on PBB technology and it provides a novel,flat and low cost Integrated structure.According to the characteristic of SUPANET and PBT, the author's main contributions are to design the solutions of the access technology of PBT and SUPANET. Furthermore, the author uses the simulator to indicate its feasibility. SUPANET uses VLI(Virtual Line Identifier) as its Local Line identifier, and PBT uses B-DA plus B-VID as its link identifier. The first access solution is based on the operations of Gateways. As SUPANET provides connection-oriented service, the communication process of this traditional solution must experience three processes, including connection establishment, data transfer and connection release in SUPANET. The second one is based on the idea of network integration technology. The second solution uses EPFTS technology in PBT network, and it uses SUPA signaling mechanism to provide dynamic bandwidth application capability for PBT.Having finished the relevant design of access implementation modules, simulation experiments of the two solutions have been carried out with OPNET. The results of the author's simulation work have shown that the solutions are operational, although further justification is needed.
