As new services of next generation network, Multicast has increasingly attracted attention from organizations and experts. VOD (Video On Demand) ,video conference and other real-time services which rely on multicast technology will be carried by optical transport network in the future. Optical network based on DWDM has wide application prospects, but multicast based on traditional routing and Switching can not meet the requirements of Next Generation Networks. Multicasting on SUPANET is a new subject in DWDM network researching. SUPA is the abbreviation of Single physical layer User-data transfer & switching Platform Architecture. Owing to Internet transmission inefficiency and unsuitability for tme critical traffic, SC-Netcom-lab (Sichuan Network Communication key Laboratory) of Southwest Jiaotong University has been working on the next generation network architecture from different perspective named Single User-Plane Architecture (SUPA).The major task of this thesis is to study the multicast signaling mechanism based on Ethernet_like Physical Frames. By research and analysis on IP multicast, ATM multicast, MPLS multicast and SUPANET multicast, some special problems of multicast signaling on SUPANET are summarized. For example, Multicast is not considered in present QosNP version. To optimize QoSNP in order that it could support multicasting mechanism, this thesis defines some essential messages and signalings of QoSNP.On the basis of these messages and signaling, the thesis puts forward corresponding Multicast signaling mechanism of intra-domain and UNI on SUPANET. Further more, setting up multicast tree, pruning tree, grafting and re-optimization are discussed in the Multicast signaling mechanism in detail.Using OPNET Modeler,The simulation of multicast signaling mechanism based on Ethernet_like Physical Frame for SUPANET is taken,in which a simple SUPANET network topology structure is established to help analyze and explain the statistics and simulation of multicast throughput, resource reservation and the control message in the SUPANET network topology structure. It turns out that the result of simulation is in agreement with the conclusions drawn from the theoretical analysis. The validity and accurateness of the multicast signaling mechanism is verified.
