The embedded system is more and more widely used in electric power area because of it's feature of high integration, high performance, high speed, low cost and stability. Being through the stages of the local simulation signal monitoring system,PC card-based digital monitoring system and the network digital monitoring system based on embedded technique, video monitoring system is heading to atendency that anterior integration,video digitalized,monitor networked,system integrated. Unattended substation is becoming to the trend of the electric power network dispatching automation. So far,the substation automation system has achieved the four-remote function of remote-measure, remote-communicate, remote-control, remote-regulate, but it can't fully meet the safety requirements of the unattended substation if only depending on the four-remote function. This paper presents that embeded video monitoring system will be used in the substation automation system, the 'remote view' will become of a powerful additional of the traditional four-remote function and a necessary facilities of the safe operating substations, and really reach the unattended substation operating.In this paper, it states the devolepment and trend of video monitoring system firstly. According to the specific demand of the actual substation video monitoring system, it designs the hardware system of embedded video monitoring system based on TMS320DM642.Then it gives the detailed analysis for every part's function, interface principles and most important devices of the hardware system, and it mainly relates to device selection,vedio input interface design,Ethernet interface etc. Particularly, it explains the thought of dual-CPU structure,and it also gives the detailed means of two CPU's communication and the hardware interface design.This paper also briefly describes the related theory of high-speed PCB design,and it carrys on effective analysis to the signal integrity question existing in the part of the high-speed PCB. The design takes fully account of the anti-jamming ability of the system, so the SI of the PCB has been ensured and the performance of the hardware system has been eventually improved.Finally, the paper provides a brief introduction to the related software,and does the network testing of the whole system. The result shows that the system can work normally, meeting the design requirements.
