In the digital world, with the continuous development of communication, wireless broadband and consume product, Digital Signal Processor is playing an important role in the field of signal processing. DSP meets the requirement of accuracy and real-time processing with its powerful processing capability. So using DSP in the field where need high-speed data process is popularity. Great market and big practicality merit are waiting for DSP in each field. The X-DSP is a high performance and low power 16-bit fix-point digital signal processor. DAGEN(Data Address Generation)is an important part which disposes data address mode in the entire design of data-path. X-DSP offers seven basic addressing modes, they are immediate addressing, absolute addressing, accumulator addressing, direct addressing, indirect addressing, memory-mapped register addressing, and stack addressing. They are all carried out by DAGEN in the hardware. With 0.25μm CMOS technology and full custom design method, I have designed and realized the DAGEN of X-DSP and given a thorough simulation and analysis. The paper introduces the background and entire design of this project in the first place, and introduces the thorough research of X-DSP instruction system and micro-architecture, and describes the execution of instructions from the data-path and pipeline aspects. The paper introduces the DAGEN mainly by describing the function of the DAGEN and design and realization of the DAGEN, as the same time, it analyses the key technology in the design. At the end of this paper, the verification involving DAGEN of the design is performed, the results of the verification are right completely.X-DSP processor has been taped out successfully, and it can completely satisfy the request of design. This also proves that the design of DAGEN fully meets the technical requirements of X-DSP.
