Owing to its features of small volume, light weight and controllable aperture extention by which low sidelobe is realized, and its integer structure of case-girder meeting the requirement of high reliability, waveguide slot antenna has been widely used in the area of flying vehicle radar.This paper studies the principle of waveguide slot antenna, summerizes three radiation slot design equations which consider the effect of wall thickness and high order mode on Elliot, and povides the engineering application of these three design equations. It also analyzes the matching mechanism of flat array slot antenna, establishes the matching model of excitation slot and coupling slot, provides tri-dimensional simulation model of excitation slot and coupling slot and synthesis design flow. The paper analyzes the theory of effect on sub-array short-circuit board, and provides the processing method. Comparing with the rectangular waveguide wide edge longitudinal slot antenna, theory base and analysis approach of non-symmetric single ridge waveguide longitudinal slot antenna are basicly same, so, the key point is the aperture selection, i. e., calculation of cut-off wave length of non-symmetric single ridge waveguide, and this is briefly introduced in the paper.The method in the paper has been applied for engineering design of SAR antenna of a certain type of UAV. Simulation has been performed on the whole array by Asoft HFSS electromagnetic simulation software. Data from theory design, simulation and actual test verifies the possibility of this engineering design method.
