The demand of LED spectrophotometer quality is improved continuously in LED applications, as China becoming the world center of LED packaging. So automated LED sorting machine has became the essential equipment at the packaging production line. At present, automated LED sorting machine for general LED is already popular, but LED sorting machine for high-power LED is still mainly manual which has low degree of automation. So there is an urgent need to the development of automated high-power LED sorting machine. But the development cycle is very long, and many human and material resources wouble be wasted during traditional design process, which needs many repeated trials on physical prototype. So virtual prototype technology, which could shorten development time and reduce the waste of human & material resources, was introduced into the research in this paper. The positioning & testing instrument in a kind of automated high-power LED sorting machine (LED900-Type) was studied by virtual simulation. This instrument is the core mechanical system of LED900. The main contents of this thesis were as follows:(1) At the basis of theoretical analysis, the dynamical model of the positioning & testing instrument was set up. The three-dimensional assembly model was built in SolidWorks software, and then its virtual prototype was built in ADAMS software.(2) The prototype was parameterized, and relationships between cam speed, follower system stiffness, spring stiffness, spring preload and dynamic characteristics of output was studied.(3) Based on dynamic simulation results and existing problems of LED900, the virtual prototype of positioning & testing instrument that had improved structure, was built in ADAMS(4) Choose GRG and SQP respectively as the optimization algorithm, optimization analyses were carried through the positioning & testing instrument which had been improved. And then the optimum parameters were obtained.Finally, according to optimized results, the physical prototype was tested, and the practical engineering problem was solved. This study provides a reference for the future development of similar products.
