With the rapid progress of multimedia technology and computer networks, the research and realization of gatrering images have been highlighted in embedded system. Because of the disadvantages such as large volume, high costs and difficult realization in multi-point system of traditional image capturing system generally based on PC platform and image collection card, in this context, designing a light and compact system for capturing, storing and displaying the images has become market requirement.This thesis purposes an embedded image capturing and transmission system with the characteristics of small volume, low cost, high stability and etc for capturing and transmitting image data. This system uses S3C2410X processor based on ARM920T processor core as the hardware platform and embedded Linux OS as the sorfware, and uses USB camera for capturing images and displays them on LCD of the target board, by network transmission the images can be displayed on PC. This design not only reduces complexity, but also improves performance and image quality, can expandly apply in remote monitoring system and many other fields, and has broad prospects for markets and applications.This thesis firstly introduces the research background, practical significance, research status and the basic theoretical knowledges of embedded system development, on this basis gives the the overall structure desgin of this system; Then it analyses carefully the technology of embedded Linux system involve the development environment , boot loader, Linux kernel and the file system, and discuses how to drive the USB camera in embedded Linux system and completes the image acquisition by USB camera; After that, it describes how to port MiniGUI and display the images on LCD; At last, it completes the network transmission based on socket, realizes the overall function of the video capturing and the transmission system, and gives the final experimental results.Finally, this thesis summarizes the completed works, points something that need to improve, proposes the further work and the improved method has been given too.
