Research And Application Of Context-Awareness In Mobile Computing

Nowadays, Mobile Computing has become an important enabler of information and resource provisioning due to the increasing computing power of handheld devices. It allows users to access mobile services anytime and anywhere while using the digital mobile terminal on-the-go. Context-Aware Computing, based on Mobile Computing, collects and analyzes all kinds of environmental information as extra implicit inputs along with existing services on the mobile terminal which is considered as the center of environment, i.e., center of geographical location, network topology or logic. Thus, contextual inputs will change while the environment changes. It enables the automatic adjustment of the contents and organization of service provisioning, and ultimately realizes user-situation-aware mobile services.In this paper, firstly we discuss the concepts of Context-Awareness and its importance in Mobile Computing Environment, and describe the general perceptual flow of different types of contexts. Secondly, we validate the worthiness and feasibility of three typical contexts by respectively design and implement three different context-aware mobile service systems. Finally, a method of user activity prediction based on context-awareness is presented. The method uses Machine Learning to explore relationships (if any) between environment and user activities, and generates the template of each user activity, which makes it possible in the future to automatically perform an activity by the terminal on behalf of user once corresponding environmental condition reaches again.
