With the development of cities and roads, vehicle navigation system is used more and more widely, which can provide people a suitable path to desitination and release traffic stress. With the rapid development of communication technology, using the characteristics of low-cost of it,it is possible to send GPS positioning information through GSM network system.First of all, the paper discusses the development of hardware and software navigation system. With the advanced GPS technology and Samsung's S3C2440 ARM9 processor, develops car navigation systems hardware platform with the GSM wireless communication function. The design and development of navigation system software is a key for navigation system, first put forward the overall framework of software design to determine the composition of the system function modules. Then describe the various functional modules of the design, implementation of the map display, GPS mapping satellite status, vehicle positioning, map matching, traffic guide and place searching.Next, this paper introduces the basic principles of GPS navigation and positioning methods. Then, details information on the design of map-matching algorithm.Through analysing and comparing the map-matching algorithm based on curve fitting, the map-matching algorithm based on the weight and the map-matching algorithm based on Kalman filter, presents a comprehensive map-matching algorithm, and do a detailed exposition for the specific implementation of the algorithm, including road search, normal traffic, road conversion, stopping treatment and unusual treatment and so on. Finally, the paper introduces GSM networks, used by the system, the characteristics of systems and the composition of structures as well as the software platform, used by the navigation system, the characteristics and system architecture of Windows CE.Then discusses in detail the design and implementation of communication module RIL(Radio Interface Layer) in Windows CE, including the synchronous I/O and asynchronous I/O cases and analyses the advantages and disadvantages of each of both.
